Ganapathi Bappa

श्री गणेशाय नमः

See Ganapathi.Understand yourself.

Every feature of Ganapathi carries timeless wisdom, for clear intelligence, disciplined desire, courageous action and a life rooted in dharma.

Enter with stillness

Before the teaching

Ganapathi is often approached as the remover of obstacles. But his form offers something even deeper: a complete philosophy for living. His head teaches intelligence, his ears teach listening, his tusk teaches sacrifice, his stomach teaches acceptance, and the mouse beneath him teaches mastery over desire.

Wisdom in his form

Ten teachings, held in one form

Nothing in the form is ornamental. Each feature is a question put to the person contemplating it.

01 · Great intelligence

Elephant head

गजानन Gajānana, elephant-faced

Let intelligence guide strength. Respond to life with wisdom rather than impulse.

The elephant is the largest creature in the forest and among the gentlest. Strength that is governed by intelligence does not need to announce itself. The head placed above the body is a picture of the order things should keep: understanding first, then force.

Ganapathi, let my understanding go ahead of my strength.

Daily contemplation

Bring one thing, and let the form answer it

Choose what you carry today. The teaching that meets it will appear beside your choice.

Today, what do you bring?

Contemplate

Small, focused eyes

Concentration and discernment

Clarity rarely arrives by thinking harder. It arrives when attention narrows enough for one thing to be seen properly. Choose the single question that actually matters and set the others down for an hour.

Ganapathi, steady my attention so that I may see what matters.

A prayer

The Guru Within

A personal prayer in plain words. It is not a traditional verse and is not offered as one.

O Ganapathi, embodiment of great intelligence and guide of every worthy action, ride upon the mouse of desire and direct its energy towards dharma.

Purify my intelligence and steady my mind. Grant me discernment, humility, courage and the strength to complete my responsibilities.

Sacred stories

Stories told as teaching, not as entertainment

Each one is given in three parts: the story as it is traditionally told, what devotees contemplate in it, and what it asks of an ordinary week.

Before beginning, become still.

May thought become clear, desire become disciplined, action become worthy and every beginning become an offering.
